Bamberg, Germany

Germany

It has been so lovely chilling out and enjoying what Germany has to offer. My parents arrived on Monday and we have had a great time catching up on the last 10 months. Yesterday we went for a little drive out to Bamberg and on our way back popped in to see the Plassenburg Castle in Kulmbach. It is amazing to find the little differences in German culture after spending so many months exploring French cities.

Bad Berneck, Germany

What a couple of weeks it has been. After an extended week working on the vineyard due to weather and the selling of our favourite car we have headed east. A lovely couple have generously lent us an apartment in the small town of Bad Berneck, Germany. For the next 2-3 weeks we will be relaxing here soaking in the colour of autumn, eating german sausages, trying out the local beers and have a special two week visit from Kims parents!

Alsace Vineyard

Vineyard

Well we have hit the halfway mark of our job here in Alsace. We have made so many friends from so many areas around the world. We have eaten so many potatoes and traditional hearty dishes from the area that it becomes quite hard to get back into the rhythm of work in the afternoon. Yesterday we had a day off and visited Struthoff, a concentration camp not far from here, but more on that later. Life here is pretty good, the view is always amazing, the wine at night is last years harvest of the grapes we pick in the day and the conversations are a plenty. It's going to be hard to leave at the end of the week, but we have an exciting adventure in Eastern Europe to look forward to. So for now we will continue working hard and eating even harder.

Oxford - Abingdon, England

IMG_6275

These last few days we have been exploring the locations of my parents youth around Oxford and Abingdon. It has been such a joy to spend time with my two Uncles (on both my mother and fathers side) hearing stories from the past and catching up on what is new. This is the first time Morgan has met my family living in England, and it has been so great introducing him. We have eaten many traditional English delights like strawberries, pork pies and drinking a pint of warm beer.

Well as our time here in Oslo comes to an end we look back with such joy at our time here. Honourable mention to our super host Adeline for a saweet week. Not only did she house us in her awesome apartment, but being a certified tour guide and knower of all things coffee and fun, made for some rad times. Boating, tram-ing, busing and walking around this beautiful city streets, museums and coffee shops has left our hearts filled with joy and our wallets emptier than when we came. This is a place we would come back to with PLEASURE...

Oslo: island hopping

Photobucket

Oslo has a great public transport system which even includes ferries. Kim and I were stuck as to what to do one afternoon so decided, let's go explore. We jumped off on the first island that took our fancy and explored the old houses, pine forests and calm seaside.

Glasgow, Scotland

Well, we have left Glasgow for Oslo and looking back at our time there, the things we loved the most were things we have easy access to in Australia. The things we are most excited about are the very Anglo things we seem to miss about our old home. Things like meat pies, fish and chips, people speaking english, peanut butter and OP SHOPS GALORE! It was such a cool city filled with vintage stores, craft markets, old buildings, a huge cemetery (kims favourite pastime) and the smell of bacon and haggis in the air. With alot of free museums, great coffee shops and micro breweries we walked around the city with a skip in our step.

Scotland Countryside

Scotland

On our way to Glasgow we stopped to stay a night at one of Kims old friends from Melbourne. They live in a small sea side town and hour north of Glasgow and even drove us in to spend the day in Glasgow. It was so nice to spend time with Eliza and her husband Tim and learn about Scotland, beer, whisky, folk music and share our many stories of travel. Our highlight, sitting in an old pub lounge listening to 6 or more old and young Scots playing traditional folk music. Here are a few shots from around West Kilbride, Tim and Eliza's lovely neck of the woods.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh

Today we leave Edinburgh and our way to the other side of Scotland to visit and old friend of Kim's, before we go into Glasgow. We had some beautiful weather and the typical downpours, but this historic city has moistened our taste-buds for more of Scotland. Our trip highlights, lots of lovely little museums and galleries, a great airbnb apartment, a interesting guided tour through the city and a nice cup of coffee.
