On the road again...

IMG_4503

Well we are back on the road, and it looks like we will be cruising around from place to place for the next 6 months. We have just spent the last few weeks finalising plans which includes a trip to the UK and Norway (September), more road tripping around France and a train trip through Eastern Europe (November-December). A couple of days ago, we arrived here in the French alps and over the next 3 weeks we will be making our way over to Lyon, and through Central France up to Paris. There is a lot planned and we can't wait to share snippets of what we get up to when we can. We will probably be instagramming more than we get time to blog, so if you want you can follow us at [morganandkim].
Are you ready for the adventure?

ps. Here is a little map which brings us to the end of September when we will be working on a Vineyard in Alsace, France.

Lac d'Esparron

image

On Monday some friends invited us to join them Canoeing around Lac d'Esparron. This lake is absolutely incredible and the colour is the water is breathtaking. We didn't want to take our cameras out on the water, so just have a few phone snaps to share. It was lovely to canoe and swim in the fresh cold water after many hot summer days. We felt very relaxed to sit and have a picnic drinking rose, watching over the lake.

Arles

Arles, France

The other day we visited Arles, the city where Van Gogh lived and painted his surroundings (right before he went a little crazy.) Many other artists have rented a apartment in Arles in hope that inspiration would hit them. And how could it not? surrounded by sunflower fields, ancient roman ruins and a general smell of provence in the air, this small, walled city is as good as it gets when trying to fill a blank canvas. The day was extremely hot and the breeze off the river was stunning. Just the perfect way to end our time in the south of France.

Lavender Hunting

Lavender fields

Last week Morgan's grandma wanted to take us to see the Lavender fields around Sault. It was beautiful driving around and seeing all the flowers in straight lines and the contrasts of colours. We also decided to drive up Mont Ventoux, a frequent challenge on the Tour de France route. As we made our way up the mountain in the car it was incredible to see all the bicycle riders making the grueling ride. At the top, people were celebrating their achievements, so proud they had made it to the top. It was an inspiring sight indeed.

Quatorze Juillet

Lavender and bee

Yesterday was La Fête Nationale and was the first time in a while either Morgan or I have been in France to celebrate. We went along with Morgan's grandmother to the local village celebrations. There was jazz performances all night and it was nice to watch the sunset over the Luberon mountains. Surprisingly though there was no singing of "La Marseillaise" or fireworks, which was a great disappointment for us.

what a week!

photo1

It has been quite a roller-coaster week for us. Our last post proved a little hopeful and things didn't turn out quite as we had expected. Our friend had an accident on a motorbike which meant he wasn't able to install the new engine for us. We were stuck in Biarritz for 5 days until the neighbour from the farm we were working on came to our rescue and fixed our car for us. What a legend! On Thursday we were able to hit the road and start our way back to Avignon. It was a long drive but the car worked a treat and we are so happy to have our car back again. We are now back in the Provence and there is Lavender and Cicadas chirping everywhere. It is nice to be back.

roll of rollei [round 2]

cemetary
This is a few shots from the second roll of film we put through the Rolleiflex. We were really happy with the first roll, so it was exciting to see some more great shots. We are now on the search for some colour film to try out. Thanks again to Cesar for doing a great job developing the film.

cherry trees

IMG_4497

This past week has been rather frustrating waiting for our pay to be finalised so we can pack up and head to our next destination. One thing that has made the waiting worthwhile is the cherry trees. We have watched these trees blossom, the leaves turn green and the fruit start to grow. The cherries have just started to ripe in the last few days and we have taken much joy climbing the trees, picking the fruit and eating cherries to our hearts content.
Morgan grew up visiting this house in summer and eating these cherries, and it has been nice to do these things together with him.

time for an adventure

IMG_4472

After working a month in a hotel worse than Fawlty Towers, Kim and I are very excited to use our hard earned extra fuel money and take our little car on a bit of a road trip.
At some point in the next 4 days we will be leaving for Biarritz, a seaside city in South-Weatern France 12km from the border of Spain. We will be staying with and helping out an Australian family at their Surf Hostel for a month. We are super excited about this new venture and excited to see what the future holds. This is the biggest trip Kim and I have ever done in a car, and we are part excited and part scared our car doesn't make it. We will be stopping overnight in the southern town of Toulouse to visit a French school friend of mine. We will also be volunteering on some organic farms over summer in the Pyrenees through an organisation called WWOOF (willing workers on organic farms) which we are very stoked to get into farming, learning and eating fresh organic goods straight from the fields.
Needless to say we have quite a lot planned for the next few months and yet are completely unsure and excited about our future.

Printemps v2.

IMG_4098
Since we had our first glimpse of Spring a lot of things have changed around here. The roads are currently lined with poppies and iris' are popping up everywhere. The Luberon mountain seems to smile down at us, and all the trees that were pruned back are starting to show new life. We are surrounded by beauty.

Verdon Gorge

IMG_4335
On Friday we took a long drive out to see the incredible Verdon Gorge. This place is truly breath-taking. We began in the little village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and drove through to the Gorge, overlooking the lake of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon. The lake is the most beautiful blue I have ever seen, and as we drove through the winding road of the Gorge, it was incredible to see the towering Mountain range. The most incredible part of the day was when an enormous eagle flew down right above our heads.

Marseille

IMG_4170

On Thursday we had the day off from work so we woke up early and took the train to Marseille for the day. We had an extra train day left over from our trip to Spain and Portugal so it was a nice little excuse to get away. Marseille is a big port side city and it was a fun place to explore for the day.

our french home

IMG_3942
For a while now we have been meaning to share a little peek into our little space that is now our home. We have been slowly settling in and making it our own. We will probably be living here until the end of summer.
